How to steam clean your oven using vinegar
Commercial cleaning products can surely take off the toughest grime in your oven. However, the fumes and chemicals from these products can affect your health. So, a better and safer alternative is to use vinegar—its acidic nature works wonders against the grime!
Step #1. Prepare your oven
Let’s begin by taking out everything inside your oven: casseroles, pots, racks; you name it. As things are going to get hot, you don’t want to risk a fire in your kitchen.
Before continuing, wash the racks with lukewarm, soapy water and a kitchen sponge. The sponge’s rough side will help you to remove grime. After you dry the racks, return one to the middle shelf inside the oven.
Extra tip: use this opportunity to use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe off grease from your oven’s walls.
Step #2. Make a cleaning solution
You’ll want to prepare your homemade cleaning solution in a somewhat wide and shallow container—a baking pan is a great option. That way, the mix will boil and release steam faster.
With your container at hand, pour in ½ or 1 cup white vinegar (depending on the level of grime) and fill the rest with distilled water. Place your newly made solution in the rack and get to the next step.
Step #3. Heat and clean it!
Once everything is ready, turn your oven to 350° F for about 30 minutes or until enough vinegar steam builds up. This way, you’ll let the steam rise and cover the walls, weakening the grime and stuck-on food.
After turning off your oven, wait until everything cools down to a tolerable temperature. Then, take out the container and use a damp rough sponge to clean the oven’s interior. Rinse the sponge as needed to avoid spreading the grime.
Last but not least, wipe the residue with a damp cloth, and finish by getting a clean microfiber cloth to dry the oven Now you are ready to bake delicious dishes again!
